East Bengal edges past spirited Sreebhumi FC to clinch Kanyasree Cup through tie-breaker

East Bengal women acquired the domestic double on Tuesday. After clinching the Indian Women’s League (IWL) this season, the red-and-gold women’s team won the IFA-organized state women’s football league, Kanyasree Cup edging past spirited Sreebhumi FC by 4-2 in the tie-breaker in the final at the Kishore Bharati Stadium on Tuesday. After the barren first 45 minutes, East Bengal took the lead in the 49th minute via Sulanjana Raul’s strike. But Rimpa Halder gave the equalizer within two minutes. Sreebhumi FC had an inspiring show in the second half as they were able to penetrate the opposition defense on quite a few occasions. But missing opportunities turned out to be the key obstruction to their last laugh.

Car rams into Liverpool’s victory parade celebration; Dozens injured

Witnesses described the “horrendous” moment when a car “rammed” into a crowd of people who were attending Liverpool FC’s victory parade following their Premier League win. Merseyside Police said several pedestrians were hit by the vehicle in Water Street, Liverpool just after the parade started in the evening on Monday. Dozens were injured two of them seriously, with 27 treated in hospital. A 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area was arrested, police said, adding that he is believed to have been the driver. One eyewitness, BBC reporter Matt Cole, said the car missed him and his family “by  inches literraly”. “We had just moments before watched fireworks going off, the celebrations of the Liverpool bus passing us on the Strand,” he said. He said an ambulance had just made its way through the “dense” crowd he was part of on Water Street, when “there were screams ahead of us and suddenly this dark blue car just came through the crowd”. “It just wasn’t stopping – I managed to grab my daughter who was with me and jump out of the way. “It missed myself and my family by literally inches.” He said the ambulance acted like a “natural barrier that slowed the car down”, but that it had “no intention – it appeared – of stopping”. He added that the car looked to be travelling at “more than 20 mph”, but that he could not be sure it was not 30mph. “As it passed me, it was being chased by a group of men who were trying to bang on the side of it and throw things at it,” he explained, adding that the rear windshield had been “completely smashed in”.

Cristiano Ronaldo says Al-Nassr chapter ‘over’; reportedly gets offer from a Brazilian club!

Portugal icon Cristiano Ronaldo indicated on Monday that he could leave Al-Nassr after declaring the ‘chapter is over’ hours after the Saudi Pro League finished. Ronaldo, 40, joined Al-Nassr in 2022 from Manchester United and his contract in Saudi Arabia ends this June.. A special transfer window runs from June 1-10 to allow the 32 clubs involved in the Club World Cup to sign players. The iconic goalscorer is said to be in talks with a few clubs over a switch ahead of the start of the Club World Cup. Al-Nassr missed the elite Asian Champions League title, losing to Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale in April’s semi-finals, and were third in the Saudi Pro League. Ronaldo ended as the league’s top goal scorer this season on 25. In the match against Al Fateh, Ronaldo netted his 99th goal in 105 appearances for Al Nassr, but his team fell short in a 3-2 defeat. Last year, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said he could end his career with Al-Nassr. The Portuguese star, who has scored 937 official goals in his career (801 at club level), could be on the move. Reports last week suggested he’s received a lucrative offer from an unnamed Brazilian club, offering him a chance to feature in the upcoming Club World Cup.
