Political influence wins finally; No election as Mohun Bagan Club to run with a ‘selected’ body!

The hype was created through the campaigns of both ruling bodies headed by Secretary Debashis Dutta as well as by the ‘so-called’ opposition led by Srinjoy Bose. But the fact was different. The hype or excitement over the election at Mohun Bagan Club which prevailed for the last couple of months through the election campaigns in different places across the city, was not unplanned. Both the existing body led by the club secretary and the opposition headed by Srinjoy Bose were aware of the fact that they would have to go by the instructions from the state’s ruling party ultimately before the formation of the new committee. It happened finally on Monday and at a media conference at the club premises, Debashis Dutta and Srinjoy Bose who had been playing a ‘mock fight’ between them for the last couple of months especially, making the media people fool, sat together and announced that considering the running of the club administration they are ‘one’! Debashis Dutta submitted the nomination for the president’s post. Srinjoy Bose submitted his nomination for the secretary’s post. Swapan Bannerjee submitted his nomination for the football secretary’s post while former India international Satyajit Chatterjee submitted his nomination for the post of assistant secretary. Simultaneously, the club’s former India international goalkeeper Shilton Paul has been invited to join the club as the youth football secretary to look after the club’s youth development program.

Federer mentions ‘three champions’ in Paris on Sunday; Alcaraz, Sinner and Tennis!

Buoyed by the magnificent performance exhibited by Carlos Alcaraz and Jack Sinner in a 5 hour-29 minutes final of the French Open on Sunday night, two modern-day greats, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, could not stop themselves from tipping their hats to the finalists! Alcaraz and Sinner were involved in an intense back-and-forth battle as the duo created the record for the longest-ever French Open final in the history of the Open Era. Roger Federer, 20-time Grand Slam winner, shared a picture with both Alcaraz and Sinner on Instagram Stories, and wrote, “3 winners in Paris today. Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and the beautiful game of tennis. What a match.” On the other hand, Rafael Nadal, who announced his retirement from professional tennis last year, shared a picture of both Alcaraz and Sinner from the French Open final and wrote, “What a great @rolandgarros final! Congrats also @janniksin for the great battle.” Carlos Alcaraz came from two sets behind to stun Sinner in a five-set marathon, winning the contest 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. The two broke the record for the longest-ever French Open final, going past the 1982 final between Mats Wilander and Guillermo Vilas. After winning the intense battle in the final, Alcaraz praised his opponent, Jannik Sinner, for providing him with a great match that lasted for five hours and 29 minutes. It must be mentioned that with this win over Sinner, Alcaraz ended the Italian’s 20-match winning streak across all Grand Slams. “I am pretty sure you are going to be champion not once, but many, many times. It is a privilege to share the court with you in every tournament,” said Alcaraz.

Ronaldo drops tears of joy after winning the Nations League for Portugal!

Portugal skipper Cristiano Ronaldo shed tears of joy as they won their second Nations League title on Sunday, insisting that winning trophies with his country is more than the club honours. Ronaldo’s 138th international goal in the second half took the final to penalties after a 2-2 draw with Spain with the substituted 40-year-old forward looking on from the sidelines as Portugal netted all five spot kicks to claim the title. The triumph, which left the five-time Champions League winner in tears, was Ronaldo’s third on the international stage, accompanying his 2016 European Championship and 2019 Nations League winners’ medals. “What a joy,” Ronaldo told Sport TV. “First of all for this generation, which deserved a title of this magnitude, for our families. My children, my wife, my brother, and my friends came here. “Winning for Portugal is always special. I have many titles with clubs, but nothing is better than winning for Portugal. It’s tears. It’s duty done and a lot of joy. “When you talk about Portugal it is always a special feeling. Being captain of this generation is a source of pride. Winning a title is always the pinnacle in a national team.” Ronaldo’s future remains uncertain. He said last week he did not plan to play at the Club World Cup in the United States, which starts later this month, despite being courted by clubs taking part in the 32-team tournament. The Al-Nassr forward said he had several offers from other teams to play in the U.S., while his side’s sporting director, Fernando Hierro said last month they were negotiating with Ronaldo over a contract extension but faced competition from clubs eager to sign the five-times Ballon d’Or winner.
