Petratos Eyes Memorable Valentine’s Day Start as Mohun Bagan Face Kerala Blasters

Dimitri Petratos admitted that 14th February feels even more special this year, with Mohun Bagan Super Giant opening their ISL campaign. The team will be up against Kerala Blasters FC on Valentine’s Day, and stressed that the team wants to make the occasion memorable for the fans. The Australian forward is ready to light up the Yuva Bharati Stadium. After a season of limited opportunities, Petratos has rediscovered his spark under new head coach Sergio Lobera. His pre-season form has been sharp. His intent is clear. “We have a new coach. The mood in the camp is very positive,” Petratos said ahead of the clash. “It is up to the coach whether I start or not. We have many quality players. I am very excited because we have prepared for a long time.” Under Lobera, Petratos looks like a different player. He has been one of the standout performers in the preparatory matches. In more than one game, he tore through opposition defences with confidence and authority. He now appears set to become a central figure in Mohun Bagan’s attack once again. The Valentine’s Day factor has added an emotional layer to the fixture. “Tomorrow is a special day, Valentine’s Day,” Petratos said with a smile. “We want to make it memorable for our fans.” Kerala Blasters, however, will not make it easy. The opening game promises intensity. Mohun Bagan will hope to begin their campaign with a statement win.
Kevin Sibille Returns to Spain For A Month

Kevin Sibille has been ruled out for nearly a month. The defender suffered a hamstring injury during an in-house practice match. What first looked minor gradually became serious. He was unable to train fully. He could not take part in intense sessions. Even his rehabilitation did not begin as planned. Though he remained under medical supervision in Kolkata, the recovery process was slow. After speaking to his personal doctor, Sibille decided to return to Spain. He wants specialised treatment. He hopes for a quicker recovery. For now, he will continue his treatment there. Reports suggest he may not return before a month. This is a major setback for East Bengal FC. They are set to face NorthEast United FC on February 16 in the ISL. Head coach Oscar Bruzon now has serious selection concerns. The worries do not end with Sibille. Naorem Mahesh is unlikely to feature in the early matches. Mohammad Rakip will also miss the opening game. The season is yet to begin. But East Bengal are already under pressure.
Zimbabwe Humble Australia by 23 Runs on T20 World Cup

Zimbabwe humbling a star-studded Australia by 23 runs in the T20 World Cup 2026 is going down in cricket history. Zimbabwe winning against the Oman side was considered a fluke by many. However, they turned towards proving their grit. Asked to bat first by stand-in Australia captain Travis Head, Zimbabwe made a steady start. The openers laid a strong base and avoided early damage. Brian Bennett anchored the innings. He remained unbeaten on 64 from 56 balls. He held one end firm and paced the knock smartly. Tadiwanashe Marumani added momentum with a fluent 35. Ryan Burl matched him with another 35. The pair kept the scoring rate healthy through the middle overs. The late surge came from skipper Sikandar Raza. He battled leg cramps in the humid Colombo weather. Still, he attacked from the outset. Raza hammered 25 off just 13 balls. He ended the innings with a towering six off Nathan Ellis. Zimbabwe closed on 169 for 2. However, they bundled the Aussies out by 146 runs. The Aussies were down to 29/4 within the first five overs. Muzarabani set the path after he dismissed Josh Inglis early into the game. Brad Evans also created the path by dismissing Cameron Green and destructive Travis Head. Glenn Maxwell (31) and Matt Renshaw (63) kept the hope alive for Australia. However, Zimbabwe’s Ryan Burl took the opportunity to wipe out Maxwell during the 15th over, and the match shifted to the team. Australia’s last hope ended in the final over. Matthew Kuhnemann was run out with 24 runs still required from the last four deliveries. That dismissal sealed the contest.
RCB To Return To M. Chinnaswamy Stadium In IPL

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are likely to return home in IPL 2026. Reports say the Karnataka government has cleared the use of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for next season. The venue had been declared unsafe after a stampede during RCB’s IPL 2025 title celebrations. The incident led to multiple deaths and injuries. Since then, no major competitive match has been played at the ground. Even fixtures of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2026 were shifted out. According to a Cricbuzz report, the state cabinet has now granted permission for IPL matches at the stadium. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed the decision. “In the interest of the sport and its fans, the Cabinet today has taken an important decision to permit the conduct of IPL matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium, while keeping public safety paramount,” he posted on X. He added, “The recommendations of the Justice John Michael D’Cunha Report will be implemented, with strict adherence to norms on ticketing, crowd regulation, and stadium access. With responsibility and accountability, we move forward.” For months, RCB were unsure about their home venue. The franchise had begun exploring alternatives. Reports suggested they approached Mumbai Indians to use the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai as a temporary base. Security remained the biggest concern. RCB proposed installing 300 to 350 AI-enabled surveillance cameras. The franchise offered to bear the full cost, estimated at around Rs 4.5 crore. The aim was better crowd control and safer access. With government approval now in place, the final call rests with RCB on whether to resume matches at the Chinnaswamy. The crisis began on 4th June, 2025. Around 2.5 lakh fans gathered outside the stadium to celebrate RCB’s IPL triumph. A stampede broke out near the entry gates during a felicitation event. Eleven people died. More than 50 were injured. After investigations, authorities termed the stadium “unsuitable and unsafe for mass gatherings.” Several events were relocated. Now, nearly a year later, a return appears possible.
Ishan Kishan Breaks Dhoni’s Record in T20 World Cup

Ishan Kishan scripted a new record on Thursday. Kishan smashed 61 runs off just 24 balls. His knock was explosive and match-defining. The 27-year-old became the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a half-century in a T20 World Cup match. He reached the milestone against Namibia in New Delhi. The earlier record was held by MS Dhoni. The former India captain had scored 45 off 33 balls against South Africa in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Kishan has now set a new benchmark for Indian wicketkeeper-batters on the tournament stage. India delivered a commanding performance ahead of Sunday’s clash against Pakistan in Colombo. Batting first, India piled up 209 for 9. Ishan Kishan led the charge, and Hardik Pandya added a brisk 52. The total proved far too steep for Namibia. Namibia were bowled out for 116 in 18.2 overs. Varun Chakravarthy broke the chase early. He removed Louren Steenkamp for 29 with his first ball. He then picked up two more wickets in his next over. He finished with superb figures of 3 for 7 in two overs. Axar Patel struck twice. One of his wickets was Malan Kruger for 5. Jasprit Bumrah completed a sharp diving catch at short fine-leg to seal it. Hardik chipped in with the ball as well. He took two wickets in two deliveries late in the innings. The hat-trick did not come. But Namibia collapsed soon after. With the win, India now have two victories in two Group A matches. Pakistan also has two wins. However, India moved ahead on net run-rate. Meanwhile, Pakistan reversed its earlier decision to boycott Sunday’s game. The move had been planned as a protest after Bangladesh were removed from the tournament. The stakes are clear. The winner on Sunday will secure a place in the Super Eight stage.
Hardik, Varun, Kishan Trio Push India Towards Record Breaking Win

India secured their biggest-ever T20 World Cup victory by runs on Thursday. They crushed Namibia by 93 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. This was their second straight win in the 2026 tournament. Ishan Kishan set the tone early. He smashed 61 runs off just 24 balls. Hardik Pandya kept the pressure on with a fierce 52 off 28 balls. Their efforts helped India post a massive total of 209 for 9. Sanju Samson replaced Abhishek Sharma in the lineup. He added a quick 22 runs from 8 deliveries. Namibia’s chase started well but fell apart quickly. They were eventually bowled out for 116 in 18.2 overs. Captain Suryakumar Yadav admitted the pitch was tough to bat, he stated, “Pretty good game, tough pitch to bat on. Ishan, Samson made it look easier. Ball was stopping a bit, but not taking credit away from Namibia’s bowlers. After 6-7 overs, we thought we might go over 240 but cricket is a leveller.” He further added, “We had a great finish. Big plus see Bumrah bowl all four. Varun bowls well in partnership with Axar. Hardik bowls wherever needed and gives a big boost with bat. Every game is important, we started a bit scratchy but we are on the road.” The star with the ball was Varun Chakravarthy. He is currently the No. 1 ranked T20I bowler in the world. He dismantled Namibia’s middle order with incredible figures of 3 for 7 in his two overs. Varun is often called a “mystery spinner.” He uses variations like the carrom ball and sharp googlies to confuse batters. Suryakumar noted that Varun’s partnership with Axar Patel is a major strength for the team. The 34-year-old architect-turned-cricketer has become a vital asset. He was a hero in the 2025 Champions Trophy and Asia Cup wins. Now, he is the anchor of India’s spin attack in their World Cup defense.
