Sanju’s journey with Rajasthan spanned over a decade, first from 2013 to 2015, and then again from 2018 to 2025. During the franchise’s suspension in 2016 and 2017, he briefly represented the Delhi Capitals. He even led Rajasthan as captain in his final season with the team.
Now, for the first time, he is set to face his former side on the field. Reflecting on this unusual situation, Sanju admitted that while emotions may surface before and after the game, his focus during the match will remain strictly professional. He acknowledged the strong bonds he still shares with players and support staff from Rajasthan, but emphasized that his loyalty on match day lies entirely with his current team.
Addressing his decision to leave, Sanju explained that it was driven by a personal need for growth. He felt that his chapter with Rajasthan had naturally come to an end, and that he had already contributed everything he could. Seeking a fresh challenge, he chose to move forward rather than stay in a comfort zone.
Looking ahead, one of the most exciting aspects of his new journey is the opportunity to spend extended time with Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Although the two have interacted before, Sanju is eager to learn more closely from Dhoni over a longer period, believing it will have a positive impact on his development as a player.
Recently, Sanju’s form has also been exceptional. He was named Player of the Tournament in a World Cup campaign where he delivered match-winning performances, including scores of 97, 89, and 89 in the final three games. Among these, he highlighted the Super Eight clash against the West Indies as particularly meaningful, describing it as a turning point where he regained composure and confidence.
