A section of AIFF wants to rely on Indian coaches for the men’s national team

IM Vijayan opined a couple of days ago that Indian coaches are also capable of guiding men's national teams.

Former India international and presently the chairman of All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) technical committee IM Vijayan opined a couple of days ago that Indian coaches are also capable of guiding men's national teams. He dropped three names also, Khalid Jamil, Renedy Singh, and Mahesh Gawali as competent enough to help the men's team deliver their best.

Significantly, a section of the AIFF wants Indian coaches to take over the men's national team. The strength behind their logic is that foreign coaches despite getting an astronomical amount of salary and parks are not being able to produce the performance of the men's national team in crucial international competitions.

Indian football has a long tradition of witnessing foreign coaches and it has also been witnessing the exits from crucial international competitions over the years. The repetition of the same old miserable happenings was again seen in the Asian Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

"What is the benefit of giving a huge amount of money to foreign coaches when you are failing in crucial international competitions? Why a coach will be given an astronomical amount to win only tournaments like SAFF, and the Intercontinental Cup? Indian coaches also can guide national teams to win these competitions," an AIFF executive opined on condition of anonymity.

The section of the Federation that wants to keep the trust of Indian coaches has also the names of a few Indian coaches as the contenders for the chief national coach's post.

It is believed that the AIFF will have a couple of discussions within a few weeks and those who want Indian coaches to be selected now, are likely to propose even the name of Dronacharya Bimal Ghosh as the Technical Director (TD) and Mahesh Gawali’s name as the coach.

It is also believed that the AIFF is planning to stage an international competition in the country and then it may send the men's national team to Merdeka Cup under the guidance of Indian coaches.
