Mohammed Shami, who did not play the Kolkata T20I, had a steady bowling session in the nets on the eve of the 2nd T20I. The Indian pacer reportedly worked hard on finding his bowling rhythm at Chepauk.
India suffered an injury concern ahead of their second T20I against England as star opener Abhishek Sharma reportedly twisted his ankle during the training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
According to PTI, Abhishek twisted his ankle during a catching drill in Chennai on Friday.
Subsequently, Abhishek was attended by the Indian team physiotherapist on the field. The Indian opener then left for the dressing room to give rest to his ankle. He was seen limping as he returned to the pavilion and did not come out to bat in the nets again. The 24-year-old reportedly spent over 30 minutes with the physiotherapist in the dressing room.
Abhishek dished out a blazing knock of 79 in the first match in Kolkata, where India secured a comfortable seven-wicket win. Samson and Abhishek have frequently given India explosive starts since joining forces after the 2024 T20 World Cup. Abhishek punished England with a blistering knock at a strike rate exceeding 230. Meanwhile, Samson has hit three hundreds in his last six T20I innings.
If Abhishek is unable to play in Saturday's match here, India could consider including either Washington Sundar or Dhruv Jurel in the playing eleven. In such a scenario, Tilak Varma might move up the batting order to open alongside Sanju Samson.
India currently lead the five-match series 1-0, following their dominant victory in the opening game in Kolkata.
