Only minutes before the collision, a large section of Udinese supporters had booed Maignan as he approached the goal in front of hardcore home fans, who had also chanted foul-mouth insults at the 29-year-old.
AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan had to be carried off on a stretcher following a scary collision with teammate Alex Jimenez in the second half of their 4-0 win against Udinese in Serie A on Friday.
Milan were up 2-0 at Udinese when Maignan left the box and clashed heads with Jimenez while trying to block the ball in the 51st minute.
Milan players urgently gestured for the team’s medical staff to attend to Maignan, who appeared to be unconscious for a brief moment.
Jimenez was able to carry on playing but Maignan held his head in his hands as he was carried off the pitch to applause from home fans at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine.
Milan said Maignan was “conscious" and on his way to hospital for tests following the accident six minutes after half-time.
Only minutes before the collision, a large section of Udinese supporters had booed Maignan as he approached the goal in front of hardcore home fans, who had also chanted foul-mouth insults at the 29-year-old.
A small number of Udinese supporters racially abused Maignan during a match in Udine in January last year, and the club subsequently identified and banned for life five people responsible for the offensive chants.

AC Milan coach Sergio Conceicao applauded Maignan’s composure and courage, as he provided an update on the injured keeper in the post-match interview.
"It impressed me. The player is on the ground, the chaos around him. I have to compliment the Udinese fans," Conceicao told Sky Sport.
“The player is one thing, and the man is another. They can boo the player, but not the man. That applause was an incredible gesture, in 40 years of football I have seen few gestures like that. Now Mike is in hospital for tests."
