Adamas forced MDSP split points courtesy Aditya De's superb show
In Group A of the AIFF-conducted U-17 Elite Youth League, Kolkata’s three football giants experienced mixed fortunes today.
East Bengal's year got off to a disappointing start as they suffered a crushing 5-1 defeat against Bengal Football Academy at their home ground, with Tanbir Dey's brilliant hat trick powering the visitors to a stunning victory. It was complemented by two own goals by East Bengal defenders at 2 minutes and 84 minutes. East Bengal’s lone goal came from Sekhar Sardar in the 39th minute. Unsurprisingly, Tanbir Dey was named Player of the Match for his outstanding hat trick.
Meanwhile, just like the seniors, the juniors positioned themselves at the top of the table. The young Mariners secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Bidhannagar Municipal Sports Academy (BMSA) at the Mohun Bagan ground. Bobby Singh opened the scoring for Mohun Bagan in the 10th minute, but BMSA equalised in the 27th minute through Firdousuddin Ahmed. T. Haokip restored Mohun Bagan's lead in the 39th minute, only for Tapan Besra to bring BMSA level again in added time of the first half. The second half began with Bobby Singh netting his second goal in the 46th minute, sealing the 3-2 win for the Mariners. Bobby’s match-winning brace earned him the Player of the Match title.
In another encounter at the Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay Sports Complex in Barrackpore, Mohammedan Sporting Club played out a goalless draw against Adamas United Sports Academy. Adamas’ goalkeeper Aditya De put up a stellar performance, ensuring his side shared the points, and was named the Player of the Match.
