Afghanistan thrash England by 69 runs in shock defeat

Mujeeb and Rashid show off their spin magic

Afghanistan have dismantled England in shock 69-run defeat in the World Cup match hosted at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday.

England won the toss and opted to bowl. Afghanistan was 284 all out in 49.5 overs. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a stunning 57-ball 80 while Ikram Alikhil made 58 off 66 balls.

Afganistan performed well not only with the bat, but also the ball as spinners lead their team to a memorable win against the defending champions. Chasing a target of 285, England ended their innings 215 in the 40.3 over. Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman each swiped three wickets for themselves. Meanwhile, Mohammad Nabi picked two wickets.

For England, Harry Brook was a lone wolf in the run chase as he registered 66 off 61 balls. Among the England bowlers, Adil Rashid clinched three, while Mark Wood took two, Joe Root and Reece Topley returned with one wicket each.
