After 37 years another lady joins IFA and wants to contribute to women's football

She already set a milestone of being Bengal’s first woman match-commissioner last year.

She already set a milestone of being Bengal’s first woman match-commissioner last year. Now Sudeshna Mukherjee, daughter of late Debajyoti Mukherjee, the former vice-president of IFA set another landmark by joining Bengal's football's ruling body after a gap of 37 years after being selected as one of the assistant secretaries.

Sudeshna while speaking to Parallel Sports remembered Anima Pandit, the last woman to have worked in the IFA administration. "She was bold, hard-working, could make decisions, and always had the intention to participate in the development of football in Bengal. I used to follow her a lot. Now, after sitting on the assistant secretary's chair I will try to follow her.”

Simultaneously, Sudheshna divulged how she is hugely influenced by her father stating, "He was called 'the crisis man' in the IFA. I have watched his style of function minutely. He also used to guide me. Still, I have to go a long way to achieve his mastery. But I always try to implement the style of operation he used."

Sudeshna has been involved with men's and women's football for a long time, being involved in the administrative activities at her family club Taltala Dipti Sangha. Later she became the manager of the Indian women's team for the SAFF Championship in 2012.

The team won the gold medal. She believes working as a co-ordinator with the Indian team in the 2016 SAAF Cup in Siliguri helped her to prepare for the match-commissioner examination that she completed in the second attempt.

Now as an assistant secretary, Sudeshna wants to contribute to the development of women’s football in Bengal. “If an intensive and long-term training program in the age-group footballers can be continued then Bengal women's football will be benefited."

She continued, "We will be able to produce more footballers who could get into the Indian women's team in the future. But conducting such a training program needs financial strength. Let us hope for the best."
