After the first year as Mohun Bagan secretary dreams of introducing youth development under the club's banner

Debashis Dutta completed his first year as Mohun Bagan's secretary today, on 24th March 2023.

He completed his first year as Mohun Bagan's secretary today, on 24th March 2023. He was elected the as the club secretary on 24th March 2022 and Debashis Dutta when reminded on the day, asserted saying, "After being elected as the secretary our team has tried to develop several things in the club. But if you talk about our achievement in the last one year, I would say that earning faith from RPSG Group and our silent participation in the club's football matter despite acquiring the 80 percent stake, has been the most credible achievement."

Dutta revealed that under his leadership the new executive committee has tried to revive other disciplines like athletics and hockey. Bengal's Arjuna awardee heptathlete, Soma Biswas has been brought in charge of the Mohun Bagan athletics team. After a span of 22 years, the club revived its hockey team that won the Kolkata Premier Hockey league this year. Along with this, modern infrastructure within the club premises is being installed including a modern gym that was named after the late P.K. Banerjee on Friday.

Still, Dutta has a desire. That is to revive the grass route and youth development program which will help to create a supply line of footballers in the future. But whether the club has the right to do that, Dutta asserted saying, "Immediately after RPSG Group bought 80 percent share I told Sanjiv Goenka that the legacy of Mohun Bagan consists of the club officials, members, and the fans' emotion and it cannot be divided. From that perspective, RPSG is a hundred percent owner of the club and equally, the club is also a hundred percent owner of the club's football division. He responded and the reflection was vivid. They have shared ideas with the club on the football team several times and in its aftermath, on behalf of the club the grass route and youth development programs on football will start soon and RPSG Group will stand by us in the project. We have plans to build up three to four teams between the age group of under-13 and under-18 and the project will be residential."

Dutta wants to create a supply line of footballers in Bengal. He emphasized saying, "IFA should ban the participation of foreign players in Kolkata Premier League. They should mandate that the KPL should be played with only the footballers of Bengal. Then only, the premier clubs will start youth development programs seriously and footballers who are part of youth development programs will get the needed exposure."

Dutta however stated, "We will try to field our team in the KPL this season without foreigners mostly. We will give the exposure of those local footballers who have been performing in the ongoing Reliance under-21 youth development league."

Mohun Bagan's secretary also wants to send an interesting proposal officially to ISL organizing committee. He said, "I want ISL should also be introduced in under-15, under-17and under-13 age groups on the league-cum-knock-out basis. The team which will be champion in all these age group leagues and the senior ISL should only be declared champion and given the trophy. With the introduction of this system, all the ISL franchise teams must be compelled to start grass route and youth development programs seriously and ultimately Indian football will be benefited."
