AIFF initiates to introduce VAR, Collina might come in January

More women's football competitions are likely to come up in future to explore and nurture potential women footballers.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has initiated the introduction of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) in Indian football.

Kalyan Chaubey, the AIFF president who attended the ‘vijaya-sammilani’ function organized by George Telegraph on Friday at the club tent, said, “There are four Fifa-approved agencies which provide the software technology to build up the VAR system. We have sent emails, asking those agencies to send the detailed costing to install the system. I assume all those four agencies will submit the costing by the end of next month. We are trying to introduce VAR as early as possible after getting the detailed report and the cost for the installation of VAR."

Chaubey also revealed that he had a discussion with Fifa's referee-board chairman, legendary Italian referee Pierluigi Collina through email.

Chabey added, “He might come to India at the end of January and guide our referees through some workshop.”

The AIFF president also mentioned that in a bid to explore and bring out potential youth footballers to build up a strong national team in the youth as well as the senior level, AIFF elite youth leagues (under-17, under-15, and under-13) are being organized. Simultaneously, he pointed out saying, "Our national women's football team's Fifa ranking is better than the senior national men's football team's ranking.”

He added, “So, along with the IWL more women's football competitions are likely to come up in future so that pool of potential women footballers can also be available for the national team.”
