Subho Das, a former footballer of Kharadaha Football Academy, Kalighat MS, and Mohammedan Sporting is going through dire financial distress after being blown away by acute diseases.
The left-footed crafty footballer was first plagued by COVID-19 in 2020 and the very next year, he was attacked by a cerebral stroke that paralyzed the left side of his body, especially the left hand.
Still, Subho did not give up, revived from the paralysis with the help of physiotherapy treatment. But suddenly, he noticed a few months ago that his fingers were getting inactive, the color of the fingers was changing gradually, and finally following the doctor's advice his right hand, from fingers to the elbow had to be amputated!
Subho who hails from Khardaha, North 24 Parganas is a school teacher at a primary government school. But he has not been receiving a salary for the last five months. Simultaneously, he is in great difficulty in repaying the loan amount taken for his disease and amputation.
Former India international footballers Ranjit Mukherjee and Swapan Sengupta have taken the initiative to arrange some financial assistance for Subho.
Mukherjee, while commenting on the issue said, “He was also my student at Khardaha Football Academy. I was not aware of his severe adversity. After getting the news about him a couple of days ago I went to meet him and promised him to organize some worth amount for him within a couple of days.”
Two former India international footballers Lal Kamal Bhowmick and Arindam Bhattacharya who played with Subho have already come forward, giving him Rs 20 thousand each. Following the initiative from Ranjit Mukherjee, Kalighat MS president Ajit Banerjee as well as the IFA secretary Anirban Dutta have also responded on this humanitarian ground, promising to provide some financial assistance for the anguished footballer.
Mukherjee also revealed, “I will talk to renowned orthopedic surgeon Joydeep Banerjee Chowdhury soon and have a discussion if an artificial hand can be set. Otherwise, Subho will have difficulty working in the future."

Meanwhile, Parallel Sports has decided to stand beside the ailed footballer and is going to organize a friendly football match ‘Match for Subho’ shortly. Stars like IM Vijayan, M. Suresh, Alvito D Cunha, Lal Kamal Bhowmick have already expressed willingness to take part in the match. Ranjit Mukherjee and Swapan Sengupta who have taken initiative for the arrangement of financial assistance for Subho, will also be present on the day.
