All-rounder Patel Saves the India D from Devastating Loss

India D had a catastrophic start, even the experienced India Test Team players, like Shreyas Iyer and Devdutt Padikkal, couldn't make an impact, scoring just 9 and 0, respectively.

The Duleep Trophy took off on 5th September, in Anantapur. Domestic cricket revealed neck-to-neck matches against the teams and a few amazing performances from the capped and uncapped players.

On the opening day of the Duleep Trophy, Axar Patel scored an impressive half-century and rescued India D in a comparatively tough situation. Patel later returned and took two wickets in two overs, helping to keep the match, which could have slipped from his team's grasp. Axar’s today’s performance significantly stroked his reputation of being the nation's key all-rounder.

India C opted for bowling having the advantage of Anantapur Stadium being a fast bowling friendly venue. India D had a catastrophic start, a wicket was taken in the opening over of the game, leading to a devastating score of 34 for 5.  Even the experienced India test team players, like Shreyas Iyer and Devdutt Padikkal, couldn't make an impact, scoring just 9 and 0, respectively. Karnataka’s fast bowler Vijaykumar Vyshak was the key player in this epic collapse.

Into this challenging situation came Axar, batting at No. 7. While he has often made significant contributions in Test cricket, this was a particularly dire scenario. Axar tackled it with determination, scoring 86 runs from 118 balls, including six boundaries and six overhead boundaries. He played a key role in rescuing India D’s lower order, forming an 84 run partnership for the ninth wicket with Arshdeep Singh, who contributed 13 runs. Despite his efforts, he could only help his team reach a total of 164.

India C also had a rocky start, with B Sai Sudharsan and Ruturaj Gaikwad becoming the seventh and eighth players to score in single figures. As Harshit Rana took both of them, his stunning bowling skill bound them to 13 for 2. Axar, who came in to bowl later, continued the aggressive bowling by taking two wickets in two overs. Despite these setbacks, India C reached stumps at 91 for 4, trailing by 73 runs.
