Sujata Kar informed she has withdrawn resignation only due to request from Ajit Banerjee
Sujata Kar finally withdrew her resignation from the coach's post on Thursday night and decided to continue with the debutant East Bengal women's team in the Indian Women's League (IWL). It took almost the whole day for the club's one of the vice-presidents Ajit Banerjee to convince Sujata to withdraw her resignation at least till the end of the women's franchise league, being held in Ahmadabad.
Sujata said on Friday morning, "I have withdrawn only due to requests made repeatedly by Ajit sir on Thursday."
However, the debutante in the IWL will start its campaign in the group league matches with a lot of odds. The team that got entry to take part in the IWL in the eleventh hour has been able to practice only for around 10 days. Secondly, the team will have to play without any foreign footballers while most of the other participating teams have roped in foreign footballers (three can be registered and two can play). East Bengal had tried to rope in footballers from Congo but it did not mature finally.
Sujata commenting on the League added, "Our opening match is against Gokulam FC. They are defending champions. They have experience playing in AFC Cup last year. More importantly, the club has maintained almost the same team they had last year. So, we will start against probably the toughest opposition. But talking about another side of the coin, playing against such a tough team will help our girls to make their assessment and gain mental strength before the next matches."
Sujata, however, feels along with the girls of the Kanyasree Cup-winning squad, a few from Manipur, Arunachal as well as Sreebhumi Football Club on loan could give the additional energy that can fulfill the absence of foreign footballers. She said, "Even though we could not get time to prepare for enough time, we will try to get into the top four."
