An own goal from Belgium sends France into Quarter Finals

Five minutes before the final time French brigade destroyed the wall of Belgian fort.

Jan Vertonghen’s own goal helps France to reach quarter finals of euro 2024 at Merkur Spiel Arena. At 85th minute of the match France finally break the dead lock and sealed their place in quarter finals. 

In a breath taking match both teams were furious to reach on mark, but five minutes before the final time French brigade destroyed the wall of Belgian fort. Mighty France beat Belgium by 1-0 goal. 

From the beginning of the match France’s strategy was to play an attacking football. Griezmann left no stone to convert their chance into a goal, but Belgium’s defence always made him disappoint. 

On the 10th minute of the match Griezmanm takes a short pass on the turn and lets fly from the edge of the box, but his low shot has  very little power and rolls straight to Casteels gloves. Within 5 minutes Belgium made their first counter attack, but they also failed to convert it into a positive one. The first half remains goal less between France and Belgium fairly chance sparse. 

In the second half till 84th minute the picture was same. Both team were aggressive to achieve a goal. As time go ahead recurrently attacks from Mbappe and Griezmann increased the pressure on Belgian defence, but their defenders were able to keep the fort safe. 

On the counter attack Romelo Lukaku, De Bruyne shows their nerve strong. But that was not enough to break the deadlock. Atlast 85th minute of France finaly break the dead lock and it is an own goal which does it for them. The ball is played into Muani’s feet and substitutes turn, shoots and sees a deflection Vertonghen which beats Casteels.
