Angshuman was a professional table tennis player of Bengal and has been in coaching for more than two decades
Angshuan Bhattacharya's success as a coach should not be described elaborately. His son whom he has nurtured and grown up as the country's number one ranked and world's 22nd ranked junior paddler right now Ankur Bhattacharya can be the perfect example of Angshuman's success as the coach.
Angshuman who was a professional table tennis player of Bengal has been in coaching for more than two decades and recently earned more accolades. Under Angshuman's coaching, Bangladesh senior national team acquired eight bronze medals and two silver medals in the recently-held South Asian Youth TT Championship in Arunachal.
The 53-year-old coach was offered by Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation (BTTF) first time in 2021. He worked for a month that time before Commonwealth TT and South Asian Youth TT. This time he had gone on a two-week program from 26th April to 11th May. In 2021, the Bangladesh team won a gold medal in the team event and two paddlers reached the last-four stage.
Former national coach Jayanta Pushilal worked as coach in USA. Mihir Ghosh also worked as the coach of Bangladesh national team and the national coach of Fiji also. Angshuman is the third coach from Bengal to have worked as the chief coach in other country.
Angshuman revealed, "Anirban Nandi referred my name to BTTF and I got the offer. However, BTTF has excellent infrastructure at the Bangabandhu Stadium. The players are also potential. They only need to be more professional. They should become more serious, and dedicated and plan for long-term development. However, the scenario has changed a little bit compared to my first visit there in 2021 and so far I had talks with BTTF secretary Hasan Suman Munir, they are now thinking in a different way. Before returning, I advised him to build up such a coaching team that will train the promising players more professionally and sticks to the hard work throughout the year."
Significantly, despite the fact that BTTF is planning to rope in a coach from China, the federation has also asked Angshuman to continue with the national team as a full-time coach. At the same time, during the South Asian TT championship, countries like Nepal and Bhutan expressed interest in roping in Angshuman as the head coach of their respective national teams.
The coach divulged, "I have to think over before accepting any offer. I had already received coaching offers from a popular coaching center in Delhi, Bangalore. But I refused all the offers. I have to look at the financial aspects but more than I am still the coach of Ankur. I cannot leave him training alone throughout the year."
