Argentina custodian ‘Dibu’ Martinez banned for two World Cup qualifiers

Martinez will miss Argentina's upcoming matches against Venezuela on 10th October and Bolivia on 15th October.

Argentina's World Cupper goalkeeper Emiliano "Dibu" Martinez has faced suspension for the national team’s next two World Cup qualifiers.

FIFA's disciplinary committee decided after Martinez allegedly violated principles of fair play and exhibited offensive behavior during recent World Cup qualifiers.

Martinez will miss Argentina's upcoming matches against Venezuela on 10th October and Bolivia on 15th October.

The suspension stems from two incidents. The first occurred on 5th September during Argentina's victory against Chile. Martinez celebrated by holding a replica of the Copa America trophy, a gesture similar to his controversial celebration at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The second incident happened on 10th September, following Argentina's 2-1 defeat to Colombia. After the match, Martinez was seen shoving a camera operator's equipment. He was also

accused of slapping a cameraman following the team's 2-1 loss to Colombia in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in Barranquilla. Martinez was repeatedly mocked by the Colombian crowd during the match. Then he was seen pushing a camera away.
