Arthur Ashe 'quotes' at the stadium inspired Muchova to reach the semi-final with illness at the US Open

Karolina Muchova reached the U.S. Open semi-finals as the only unseeded player on Wednesday.

The quotes are written above the players' entrance at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. Ashe, the legendary tennis player uttered the words which were "Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

Karolina Muchova got inspired by the quotes as she fought through the illness to reach the U.S. Open semi-finals as the only unseeded player on Wednesday.

Muchova revealed after her desired victory against Beatriz Haddad Maia in the quarter-final that the Ashe quotes gave her a big boost. She was seen taking medical breaks during the match. β€œIt is written here on the court, like, you know, Ashe's thing... do what you can with all you have today or something like that. So I was keeping that in mind,” Muchova said, adding that she was fighting against infection.

Muchova, the only unseeded player in the semi-finals, was grabbing her hip between points and left the court with the physiotherapist during the second set.

Muchova will next face sixth seed Jessica Pegula, who defeated world number one Iga Swiatek. The two played each other in the Cincinnati Open last month, with Pegula winning in three sets.
