Ashmita registered gold, silver, and a bronze medal while 11-year-old Keka secured one gold and a bronze medal in the competition.

They are Ashmita Lodh and Keka Ray. Ashmita is a student in the 11th standard and Keka is studying in the 5th standard. Both the girls along with 11 other karate players recently glorified Indian karate, winning gold and bronze medals in the 14th NSKA international karate competition held in Kathmandu, Nepal from 26th to 28th May.

Ashmita registered gold, silver, and a bronze medal while 11-year-old Keka secured one gold and a bronze medal in the competition. Ashmita used to play athletics, doing shot put and running also earlier. But she has a significant reason behind choosing karate which she also started along with athletics. Ashmita's father Asim Lodh revealed, "Ashmita is studying science. Still, she does not want to make her career becoming a doctor or an engineer. She desires to join National Defense Academy (NDA) and in a bid to qualify for a physical test of the examination she has chosen karate. Practicing karate helps to take the fitness level and strength to the ultimate level."

Keka's father Abir Ray however clarified saying, "It is too early to comment whether Keka wants to make karate a profession in future. But we got her admitted to karate so that she learns self-defense in the future if needed."

Both the girls train under Santosh Tiwari, an experienced coach who has acquired 6th Dan Black Belt Japan as well as representing the state and the country. Tiwari who is currently the student of Kancho MS Raveendran, National chief of India, 9 dan red belt is one of the disciples of the legendary Dadi Balsara and follows Okinawa Shorin Matsubayashi Ryu Kobudo style. He has been training at Khardaha in North 24 Parganas for the last 12 years. He said, "Along with Ashmita and Keka 11 more players took part in the tournament organized by Nepal Shotokan Karate Association.

The participants from 28 countries in total were there. But we competed with the seven countries in the quarter-final and semifinal stage. All our boys and girls had an excellent show and I believe all of them will bring more laurels in the future."

The 11 more medal-winning participants from Ekata Club where Tiwari trains are: Tanuska Sinha, Bishakha Ghosh, Kritika Saha, Aiswasree Chakrabarty, Emtiaz Haque, Akshobhya Mallik, Elna Sarkar, Ashmita Das, Nabodita Sengupta, Annesha saha Saha and Pramita Das.
