Speculation about Ashwin's retirement grew after he was seen hugging Virat Kohli during a rain break at the Gabba on Wednesday.

Off-spinner R Ashwin announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on Wednesday. Speaking at a press conference alongside captain Rohit Sharma at the Gabba in Brisbane, Ashwin confirmed it was his final day as an Indian cricketer. The announcement followed the drawn third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

“This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats of the game at the international level. I do feel there is a bit of punch left in me in a cricketer. I would like to showcase that in club-level cricket. So this will be my last day. I have had a lot of fun. I must say I've created a lot of memories alongside Rohit and several of my teammates." Ashwin said at the press conference.

Speculation about Ashwin's retirement grew after he was seen hugging Virat Kohli during a rain break at the Gabba on Wednesday. An intense chat between the two fuelled rumours on social media, which Ashwin promptly addressed by confirming his decision after the third Test ended in a draw.
