Atanu Das finishes fourth in qualification, India’s compound teams bow out

Das with a noticeable return in the international scenario of archery almost after one-and-half years, shot a solid 673 to earn fourth seeding and also progressed to the second round in the eliminations bracket in World Cup Stage-1 in Antalaya on Wednesday.

Atanu, who collected 338 in the first half of his round followed by 335, scored 310 through 10s and Xs.

He was followed by B. Dhiraj (665), Tarundip Rai (662) and Neeraj Chauhan (639) at 15th, 23rd and 90th positions, respectively.

The Indian men’s team was fourth with 2000 points. The fourth place guided them to the pre-quarterfinals where they will have to face the first round-round winner between Japan and Switzerland. Indian men’s team however have a difficult road ahead as they are placed in the same group with tough USA and the top seeded Turkey. On the other hand inexperienced women’s recurve team had a forgettable outing in the qualification round as all of them finished outside top 30. Aditi Jaiswal also failed to make the team event finishing a forgettable 56th spot with a score of 637. She will now compete only in the individual section.

However, Indian women’s compound team crashed out of the competition.
