Australia’s lowest team totals at home

The side’s lowest team score in a home Test came way back in 1888 when it was shot out for 42.

Australia lost six wickets for 60 runs on day five of the third Test match against India at the Brisbane Cricket Ground on Wednesday. Beginning its second innings with a massive lead of 185 runs, Australia preferred to attack from the outset to achieve a result.

However, a flurry of wickets left Australia staring at the prospect of getting bundled out for a paltry total. However, a 10-ball 22 from captain Pat Cummins helped Australia accumulate quick runs. The side declared at 89 for seven, setting a 275-run target for the visitors to win this Test. India however in reply are batting with eight without loss at tea.

Jasprit Bumrah, leading from the front scalped three wickets again at the cost of only six runs while Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep captured two wickets each for India.

The side’s lowest team score in a home Test came way back in 1888 when it was shot out for 42. The second lowest for Australia at home was 76 against the West Indies at the WACA in Perth in 1984.
