ATK Mohun Bagan goes ensured their berth in the ISL final for the second time after 2021.
On Monday night amidst the shining floodlight at the Salt Lake stadium, the color turned green and maroon. The typical campaigning the Bagan fans have been launching for months, 'Remove ATK from Mohun Bagan' also vanished. Rather they looked chanting, sharing jubilation.
ATK Mohun Bagan goes ensured their berth in the ISL final for the second time after 2021 thanks to 'Golden Gloves' winner custodian Vishal Kaith's outstanding show once again and Pritam Kotal's mature show in the second semifinal of the League against spirited Hyderabad FC at the Salt lake Stadium on Monday. Mohun will now meet Bengaluru FC in the final scheduled to be held on 18th March at Fatorda Stadium, Goa.
Pritam who wishes to have three ISL titles in his account stated in a post-match briefing, "I was not at all nervous before taking the decisive shot in the tie-breaker. Now my preparation starts for the final. I wish to clinch three ISL titles before saying goodbye to the game."
Mohun Bagan played the match with dominance but had to wait till the Tie Breaker to seal a spot in the Finals. Vishal Kaith once again proved to be the savior of the team under the bars in the Tie Breaker Phase. Since the start, Bagan played on a positive note aiming for a goal. But a couple of good saves from Gurmeet kept Hyderabad in the game. Hugo Boumous was substituted in the 73rd minute as Juan tried to inject fresh legs in form of Federico Gallego, though the fate of the match remained unchanged at the end of 90 minutes.
The match went on to extra time. But the scoreline remained 0-0 and the match was tied even after two legs as both teams failed to break the deadlock. Finally, the match was sealed by the Green-and-Maroon brigade in the Tie Breaker. Joao Victor opened the scoresheet for HFC in Tie Breaker while Dimitri Petratos scored on the encounter, Then Hyderabad's Siverio's shot was brilliantly paved away by Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith, but Federico Gallego put Bagan up 2-1 with his successful shot.
The disappointment got higher for the visitors when Hyderabad's star performer Barthelemow Ogbeche too missed the chance to convert from the spot kick. Mohun Bagan winger Manvir Singh didn't fail to give Mohun Bagan a 3-1 lead. Then Rohit Danu came and scored for the Nizams. More dramas were waiting as Brendon Hamil failed to score for Bagan in the fourth shot. Reagen Singh converted the penalty for his team's last shot, but all went in vain as Mohun Bagan's last shot taken by the captain Pritam Kotal went past Hyderabad Goalkeeper. That sealed both a win in this match, and a final match ticket for Saturday, at Goa.
The battle of Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC is on since last decade, as Mohun Bagan lifted their first I League trophy back in 2015, outplaying Bengaluru at Kanteerava. In the Federation Cup also, these two had locked horns couple of times. So the 'battle of titans' is once again back for those two teams who were not in the first two spots after the league stage.
