Bangladesh Premier League: Driver refuses to return ‘kit bags’ to the players due to non-payment!

The National Sports Council has formed a fact-finding committee to look into the matter. The council will examine the reasons for the delay in payments to the players and other staff.

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has been the talk-of-the-town in the cricket world nowadays. Match-fixing allegations rocked the BPL. The controversy aggravated after one of the franchises allegedly stranded its foreign cricketers without salaries and even their return tickets!

According to Cricbuzz, BPL outfit Durbar Rajshahi has not yet cleared part payments of foreign players leaving them stranded in the country without return tickets.

The affected foreign players are Mohammad Haris (Pakistan), Ryan Burl (Zimbabwe), Miguel Cummins (West Indies), Mark Deyal (West Indies), and Aftab Alam (Afghanistan).

The alleged non-payment, to both foreign and local players, was a raging issue last month when the cricketers cancelled their practice session and the overseas contingent opted out in protest on 15th January. But finally, they resumed practice and playing after promises from the franchise management and CEO. The local players have checked out of the team hotel while the foreigners are clueless about the team management not responding to their calls.

The drama took a new turn when not only the players but also bus driver Mohammed Babul refused to give the players' kit bags, alleging he hadn't been paid.

“It’s a matter of shame and regret. If they had paid us, we would have given back the kit bags to the players,” Babul was quoted as saying.

The non-payment by Durbar Rajshahi, and also Chittagong Kings, has got the cricket board and government agencies involved.

The National Sports Council has formed a fact-finding committee to look into the matter. The council will examine the reasons for the delay in payments to the players and other staff.
