Barnali has desire to represent India which she has not yet achieved.
Barnali Kar, the 25-year-old footballer from Bengal has two aspirations. She wants to represent India which has not yet been achieved. Secondly, she needs a job desperately.
She does not want her 58-year-old father Lakhhikanta Karar to wake up at dawn every day and go to the local market with a heavy big basket to sell bananas. Barnali does not want to see her mother working hard and toiling to take care of her all family members from early morning till night. Barnali dreams of reconstructing their brick house into a concrete structure and she desperately needs a job to fulfill her second desire.
The midfielder, before representing Kanyasree Cup winner East Bengal last season, had played in the Kolkata women's league for a few more teams in Kolkata.
She remembered her significant stint at Kolkata Police commenting, "While playing for Kolkata Police some of the footballers including me, were promised jobs. Even, though we appeared for interviews but the lockdown due to the increase of COVID-19 the process stopped. I became extremely frustrated."
The midfielder who is fascinated by watching Sunil Chhetri however is setting focus on the forthcoming Indian Women's League (IWL) with East Bengal. She explained, "I have experience of playing in IWL once before with Chadni Sporting Club. I am preparing mentally to perform in the IWL this year also. I want to perform in the country's women's premier league with the hope of being called up in the national preparatory camp in near future."
East Bengal women's team is likely to resume training under the guidance of Sujata Kar at the Salt Lake Stadium on Thursday. Barnali paid gratitude to Sujata Kar, "She has great knowledge of coaching and man-management skill. Apart from East Bengal and the senior Bengal squad, I have been training under her tutelage in other clubs also for a long time."
However, Barnali who has already represented senior Bengal four times including the current season regretted not getting the opportunity to start in the Kanyasree Cup for the red-and-gold brigade. She mentioned, "If I get the opportunity to play, I will prove my mettle in IWL."
