BCCI waive off Rs 78.90 crore from MRA value deal with Star for the 2018-23 cycle.

BCCI has decided to wave off one match fee from the media rights agreement (MRA) with Star India amounting to Rs 78.90 crore as per Times of India source.

The MRA for the cycle 2018-23 which ended on 31st March had a schedule for 102 matches against a value of Rs 6138.1 crore whereas BBCI has arranged 103 matches in the cycle.
BCCI has decided to wave one match from the scope of Star India Pvt Ltd under the agreement signed on 5th April 2018 for BBC International and Domestic matches thus reducing the matches to 102 from 103. However, a source close to Star India told PTI on Monday that BBCI was to arrange 102 matches so the question of waiving one match fee should not arise.
Star had bid different amounts per game for different years in the previous cycle. Rs 46 crore, Rs 47 crore, Rs 46  crore, Rs 77 crore, and Rs 78.90 crore per game for 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23 respectively. They have asked for a waiver of Rs 139 crore due to the rescheduling of a few matches after the outbreak of Covid 19 in 2020.
For the next MRA cycle 2023-27 Star will have to bid alongside with Viacom18 and Sony. BCCI has decided to waive Rs 78.90 crore from the previous MRA value. The board will have a high expectations for the home season after a huge gain of Rs 48390 crore from IPL rights.
