After a gap of six years, Bengal freed them from the curse of failure in the Santosh Trophy. Under the guidance of experienced coach Sanjay Sen, Bengal clinched the 33rd Santosh Trophy with a lone-goal victory against spirited Kerala at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Ravi Hansda struck the winner in the 94th minute, jabbing home on an Aditya Thapa header into the box to settle as the top scorer in the competition with 12 goals.
However, the match became quite exciting in the first session as both teams looked aggressive and tried to penetrate their opposition boxes, respectively. Both the teams also looked cautious in combining their defensive organization and as a reflection none of the teams could create a positive chance in the first session.
The second session also continued with the same tone as both teams tried to depend on earning possession rather than offering penetrative football to create positive chances.
