Bengal draw against Delhi, coach regrets for Jiten missing the sitter

Ranjan however praised Ujjal Hawladar’s performance, revealing he led the Bengal attack throughout.

Bengal in their group league match of the Santosh Trophy drew 0-0 against Delhi on Wednesday at Banga & Phagwara ground in Punjab.

Bengal coach Ranjan Chaowdhury however regretted Jiten Murmu’s missing the sitter in the first half. While returning to the hotel from the ground Ranjan explained, "It was the one-to-one situation. Jiten even dodged past the advancing goalkeeper. But due to the worst ground condition, Jiten’s second stroke was longer and he lost control. It could have even been a spot-kick in our favor as the goalkeeper trapped Jiten that time inside the box. But referring was as usual pathetic as he showed cards today also even if our player had touched Delhi players.”

Ranjan however praised Ujjal Hawladar’s performance, revealing he led the Bengal attack throughout. Ranjan said, “Ujjal was my man-of-the-match today.”

Even after the draw Bengal coach sounded optimistic commenting, “We need to win our next matches. It can help us to take to the knock-out stage although we have to look for other teams’ points.”
