Bengal women bounce back, humiliate Maharashtra at 5-0

Bengal appeared in the national championship finals 15 times so far. and clinched the title twice.

After a defeat at the hands of fancied Manipur in their previous group league match, Bengal women's team bounced back, trouncing Maharashtra 5-0 in the group league match of ongoing 27th senior national women's football championship on Tuesday at DNU ground, Amritsar. 

Sangeeta Basfor, Ratna Haldar, Rimpa Haldar and Dular Marandi (2) scored goals in the match. Bengal will face Railways in its next group league match on Thursday. Bengal appeared in the national championship finals 15 times so far. and clinched the title twice. They were the winner of the inaugural season in 1991–92 and last won it in 1996–97 held at Haldia. Legendary football manager Sushil Bhattacharya became the first head coach of the team in 1975.
