Bhaichung has also asked for the live streaming of all executive committee meetings in the future on social media channels and YouTube for transparency and the members' accountability.
Bhaichung Bhutia, the former Indian captain and one of the executive committee members demanded the removal of All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) president Kalyan Chaubey, and the treasurer Ajay Kripa for allegedly being involved in financial corruption.
Bhaichung has also asked for the live streaming of all executive committee meetings in the future on social media channels and YouTube for transparency and the members' accountability.
It is learned that AIFF vice-president NA Haris got involved in an argument on the issue. All the other members kept quiet but nobody countered Bhaichung regarding his demand.
Incidentally, in an email to the executive committee members, Andhra Pradesh Football Association’s former president Gopalkrishna Kosaraju raised the allegation of financial corruption stating that AIFF president Kalyan Chaube, the treasurer Ajay Kripa, and former secretary Shaji Prabhakaran availed the privilege of holding the AIFF credit cards on their own for purpose of any emergency spending when on AIFF official traveling which was the first of its kind in the history of AIFF.
Kosaraju reportedly attached five bank statements of Ajay in his email that showed expenditures of over Rs 1,24,000 over a period from January to May 2023.
According to the reports, Kosaraju alleged that Chaubey bought shoes and Kipa availed spa services and paid fuel and hotel bills using AIFF credit cards, which they and ousted secretary Shaji Prabhakaran had the privilege of holding in case of emergency spending even during official tours.
However, General Secretary Shaji Prabhakaran was formally sacked by the All India Football Federation executive committee on Tuesday. Prabhakaran was dismissed by an AIFF emergency committee on November 7 for "breach of trust", the decision was ratified at an executive committee meeting two days later.
However, Bhaichung was the lone AIFF executive committee member not to have signed the document to dismiss Shaji Prabhakaran. Otherwise, there was no debate over Shaji’s sacking.
Incidentally, senior national team's disastrous exit from the AFC Asian Cup was not dicussed in the meeting as it was not in the agenda.
