Bengal ensured their exit from Santosh Trophy this season, conceding a humiliating 1-4 defeat against Manipur at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. Naoba Meitei drew first blood for Manipur in the 11th minute. The lead was doubled by Subhash Singh in the 37th minute. After the break, Bengal shrugging off its first-half lethargy, delivered several counter-attacks to create scoring opportunity. Souvik Kar substituted after the break reduced the margin. Bengal coach Biswajit Bhattacharya however took whole responsibility for the defeat commenting, "The boys tried their best in the second half especially. Trailing by a goal we were coming back in the match but we conceded the suicidal third goal so unfortunately that it cracked the boys mentally." Simultaneously, Bhattacharya again regretted for not having a second positive striker. After the last match that Bengal drew with Services, coach mentioned, "I do not have any second positive striker like Jiten Murmu." Amit Tudu received injury during the match today. However, it was not serious according to the coach.
