Bhawanipore, Customs, Kidderpore earn full points

Kidderpore SC edged past Railway FC by a solitary goal scored by Tirthankar Sarkar.

Bhawanipore FC humbled West Bengal police 3-0 in the CFL Premier Division match at Kalyani Stadium on Sunday. Along with a suicidal goal Arijit Bagui and Nikhil Padam scored for the winners. Nikhil Padam was chosen man of the match on the day. Bhawanipore has gathered 9 points in three matches so far.

The team's experienced coach Ranjan Chowdhury however was happy with the performance of his boys. He said, "The new inclusion of Jiju Francis, the former captain of Santosh Trophy-winning Kerala has strengthened the midfield game. I hope he will be more sharpened in the team's coming matches."

Jiju's joining has strengthened Bhawanipore FC. But departure of seasoned striker Narahari Srestha has weakened the upfront strength of Calcutta Customs, admitted their veteran coach Biswajit Bhattacharya. In their Sunday's CL Premier Division match against George Telegraph Sumay Shome struck the winner off a powerful right-footed volley in the late second half.

But the coach said, "Sumay played hardly a couple of matches last season and today was his first match in the CFL. Still, despite being inexperienced he scored the winner so calmly that is to be remembered. Our forward line is inexperienced after Narahari's departure for Gokulam FC. But I am optimistic about these boys."

Arnendu Dutta, the Customs goalkeeper who received the man-of-the-match award, made a couple of brilliant saves, helping the team to return with three points.

Kidderpore SC edged past Railway FC by a solitary goal scored by Tirthankar Sarkar and the match between Mamoni & Ashiayana Pathachakra and Peerless has been deferred to Monday at Barrackpore Stadium. The match was abandoned due to rain.
