Mohammedan Sporting finally fulfilled the dream of completing a hat-trick in the CFL Premier Division after 30s with the 2-0 victory against Mohun Bagan at Kishore Bharati Stadium on Friday. The team finished its engagement in the League with 44 points in 17 matches, leaving Diamond Harbour FC and East Bengal behind.

The jubilation started already before the last whistle. The colour of the galleries at the stadium turned out ‘pink’ as more than five thousand fans became ecstatic when the team circled the stadium ground after the match.

The club’s general secretary Isthtiaque Ahmed revealed already a cheque for Rs 5 lakh has already been given to the team for the historic hat-trick.

The celebration ended finally through a ‘victory parade’ from Victoria Memorial to the club tent in Maidan. The secretary also divulged that some footballers' contracts are going to be extended, especially those who were instrumental in helping the team to win the CFL Premier Division for the third consecutive time. The contract of David Lalhlansanga who was again man-of-match on the day by scoring the second goal for the winner has already been extended for two more seasons.

Along with David who became the highest scorer of the CFL Premier Division with 21 strikes, Lalremsanga scored the other goal in the 13th minute through an accurate back-header from the flag-kick.

The club’s general secretary however sounded upset while commenting, “We expected the team will be handed over the trophy today at the ground which did not happen.”

However, the team will again join at Bunkerhil Mohammedan Sporting Sports complex in Gurgaon on 6th October to begin their preparation for the I-League, scheduled to kick from the last week of October.
