Athletics Association of West Bengal secretary Kamal Mitra has been chosen chef-the-mission of Bengal contingent for the next National Games to be held in Goa.
As a part of its 100th year in 2023, the Bengal Olympic Association is going to organize a function where Bengal's former Olympians as well as present international players will be felicitated and the medal winners in the last Gujarat National Games will be presented with cash incentives.
The function will be held on 2nd October at Netaji Indoor Stadium. BOA president Swapan Banerjee said in a media conference at the Calcutta Sports Journalists Club (CSJC) on Saturday, “Rs 11 lakh 92 thousand is the total amount which will be distributed among the medal winners. In the individual category, the gold medal-winner will be given Rs 20 thousand, the silver-medalist will receive Rs 15 thousand and the bronze medallist will be presented with Rs 10 thousand. In the team events, the gold medalist will receive Rs 10 thousand, the silver medal-winning team will receive Rs 7 thousand, and the bronze medal-winning team will be given Rs 5 thousand.”
Banerjee however revealed, “I had talks with state sports minister Arup Biswas regarding the matter. He also has decided to organize a similar function on behalf of state government.”
Along with the president, all other BOA top officials were present at the conference including secretary Jahar Das. BOA has plans to conduct more programs to mark the centenary year.
