Brazil fighting against extreme heat and the recovery of balance before the ‘must-win’ match

According to reports revealed by Brazilian media, the CBF has a device that measures the hydration level of athletes through saliva through individual collection at premeditated moments.

The extreme heat in Las Vegas, United States, is forcing the Brazilian national team to adapt in preparation for the match against Paraguay in the second group stage of theCopa America.

The game is scheduled to be staged on Saturday morning (India time) at Allegiant Stadium.

During the summer in Nevada, temperatures reach record highs and people are taken to hospitals due to heatstroke or dehydration. In addition to the high temperatures, the desert climate accentuates the effects of the sun. In recent days, the average temperature has been 40°C, reaching up to 44°C.

According to reports revealed by Brazilian media, the CBF has a device that measures the hydration level of athletes through saliva through individual collection at premeditated moments. As a result, they create strategic plans to be followed by each player.

Hydration is measured at three different times by the committee: the day before the game, the morning of the game, and the day after the game. The idea is to have time to intervene and improve the athlete's levels before the next activity.

Some players felt the effects of the high temperatures and were treated, according to the report. In the first training session in Las Vegas, striker Rodrygo was spared from the activities led by coach Dorival Júnior and did individual internal work.

Significantly, the coach Dorival Junior, after the team’s draw against Costa Rica in the opening match sounded cautious about the team’s next match against Paraguay. He commented in the media conference, “We have to be calm, balanced and confident. If every game we have doubts about everything we are doing, we will get nowhere. Every game is decisive, whether it's a friendly or not. It's always going to be like that, we'll never get rid of it.”

He continued, "We need to understand it's a time of change, of transition, and you can't build a team overnight ... It's a natural process. The team has shown more positives than negatives in every match, not just the last one."

The nine-time Copa champions will need to take all three points to boost their chances of progressing to the knockout stages, with Colombia leading in Group D after their 2-1 win over Paraguay. Despite the pressure, Dorival insists on being patient with a team "in transition."

The defender Marquinhos also projected the clash against Paraguay as a crucial encounter stating, that they must have to win it. He reminded, "Paraguay is a fierce team that has a solid defensive organisation which puts any opposition in danger. We should be alert."
