Bumrah consults Kiwi surgeon; anxiety over his participation in Champions Trophy

Bumrah bowled only 10 overs in the fifth Test after he sustained a back spasm. Later he went for scans and hence didn’t come to bowl in the full match.

In a bid to gain recovery from his back spasm during India's final Test against Australia in Sydney, Jasprit Bumrah has consulted New Zealand-based orthopedic surgeon Rowan Schouten according to a report published by Hindustan Times.

The report has claimed that the selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is waiting for the final report as the surgeon is in touch with the medical team of the BCCI.

According to the report, Bumrah is likely to be named in the 15-member squad for the forthcoming Champions Trophy. But the ace fast bowler will only be asked to play if he is ‘pain-free’ after returning to bowling.

Bumrah bowled only 10 overs in the fifth Test after he sustained a back spasm. Later he went for scans and hence didn’t come to bowl in the full match.

Bumrah picked up 32 wickets from five matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The latter was named the Player of the Series for his stellar performance and achieved the record of picking up the fastest 200 wickets in Test cricket by an Indian pacer.

Meanwhile, India legend Sunil Gavaskar feels Bumrah is going to be the next captain of the Indian team.

He said,"He could be the next man. I think he will be the next man. Because he leads from the front. He has got a very good air of a leader. But at the same time, he is not somebody who is going to put pressure on you. Sometimes you have captains who put a lot of pressure on you.”
