The technology is also set to be used at this year’s WTA Madrid and Italian Opens, both WTA 1000 events.
The Charleston Open is going to be the first WTA Tour clay tournament to use Electronic Line Calling Live (ELC Live), the women’s tennis governing body said on Wednesday.
The event, which will start from 29th March and end on 6th April, will use ELC Live technology for “out” calls in qualifying and main-draw matches.
“The introduction of Electronic Line Calling at the Credit One Charleston Open is a major milestone, not just for Charleston but for all clay tournaments on the Hologic WTA Tour” tournament director Bob Moran said.
“This groundbreaking technology will bring enhanced accuracy and consistency to line calls across clay courts, setting a new standard in tennis.”
The technology is also set to be used at this year’s WTA Madrid and Italian Opens, both WTA 1000 events.
