Chef-de-Mission sounds optimistic about more gold medals this time

Bengal won 56 medals including seven gold medals, 23 silver medals, and 26 bronze medals in the last National Games in 2023.

Biswarup Dey who has been selected Chef-De-Mission of Bengal's contingent for the forthcoming National Games is optimistic that Bengal will be able to increase the number of gold medals in the competition.

National games will be staged in Uttarakhand from 28th January to 14th February and Bengal won 56 medals including seven gold medals, 23 silver medals, and 26 bronze medals in the last National Games in 2023. This time, Bengal has earned eligibility to participate in 26 disciplines. The men’s football team failed to earn qualification due to their elimination from the group stage in last year’s Santosh Trophy. But the women’s football team have earned qualification to take part in the prestigious competition.

Dey while speaking to Parallel Sports explained, “National championships are going on in a few disciplines. So the athletes of those respective disciplines are expected to be within the preparation. Except for those, our instruction to other participating disciplines is to conduct 10 days of preparation at least."

"Long-term preparatory camp would have benefitted more considering the chances of winning more medals. Still, I hope the disciplines like table tennis, gymnastics, and swimming can add the number of medals, especially gold medals in the Games this time.”
