
Rafael Crivellaro is the key performer of the match as he has a goal and two assists to his name
Chennaiyin FC had a happy return to their home ground with a 5-1 victory over Punjab FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai in the ongoing ISL match on Sunday.
The host entirely dominated the first half with three goals. Captain Ryan Edwards recieved an accurate cross from Rafael Crivellaro at the far end of the post and slotted it home to hand his side the lead in the 24th minute of the game. In just a few minutes Connor Shields doubled Marina Machans lead up with his first goal of the match.
Crivellaro, who had been assisting goals all this while, got a chance to get one on his name as he converted the penalty in added time of the first half to triple his team’s lead. Punjab FC was in trouble and could not stop the mighty Marina Machans. They created two splendid chances to find the back of the net but failed due to the spectacular defense of the opponents.
In the beginning of the second half of the game, Melroy Assisi recieved a red card and was sent off for a strong leg challenge on Rahim Ali. Then in the 56th minutes mark, Marina Machans sealed the deal for the game with Connor Shields posting a wonderful right footed finish assisted by Farukh Chowdhury.
Coyle’s team kept seeking goal-scoring chances even as the game entered its final few minutes. Super Sub Vincy Barreto in the 84th minute mark bagged the fifth goal of the night.
Just a couple minutes later, sub Krishnananda Singh picked up the lone goal for Punjab FC with an amazing right footed finish to find the bottom right corner of the net.
Chennaiyin currently occupies the sixth position of the points table with six points.
