Two clubs in Kolkata football are already under scanner on the match-fixing issue.
The integrity department of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has circulated an alert letter to the secretaries of all the state football associations about the match-fixing issues that have already posed a threat to Indian football at different times.
Integrity Officer Javed Siraj, in a letter to the secretaries of the state associations, reveled that several Indian football clubs received emails from an alleged match-fixer named Sam offering them to fix matches.
According to the letter Sam is Chinese and he also shared his WhatsApp and phone number with the respective Indian clubs for contacting him. The phone and Whatsapp numbers of the said fixer belong to China.
This matter has been referred to the integrity unit of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) at Kuala Lumpur for necessary investigation. The letter has also asked the state associations to take necessary measures.
Anirban Dutta, the IFA secretary commenting on the letter, stated, “I also received the letter. We will try our best, trying to refrain the clubs from entertaining such offers. Two clubs in Kolkata football are already under scanner."
The letter has also hinted that the alleged person might be a data-hacker.
Recently, serious allegations of match-fixing surfaced after a controversial Delhi Football League match between Ahbab FC and Rangers FC on Monday. Ahbab FC were winning the match 4-0 and conceded two dubious-looking own goals late in their game against Rangers FC. The match finished 4-2 in favor of Ahbab FC.
