Churchill Brothers to boycott Super Cup; MBSG also not to give importance

Churchill Brothers are scheduled to start their campaign in the Super Cup on the opening day against Mohun Bagan Super Giants (MBSG) on 20th April.

Frustrated by the delay and the growing discontent over not being awarded the I-league trophy despite finishing at the top of the table, Churchill Brothers has sent a letter to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) informing them about their decision to withdraw from the forthcoming Super Cup, scheduled to start from 20th April.

Churchill Brothers are scheduled to start their campaign in the Super Cup on the opening day against Mohun Bagan Super Giants (MBSG).

The club’s General Manager Aditya Barros Pereira when contacted revealed, “Why did not AIFF award the I-league trophy on the last day of our match? The Appeal Committee meeting is not our look-out. We finished on the top of the League table. This is probably for the first time in the history of I-League that despite finishing on the top AIFF was not able to make official declaration on the title.”

Aditya added, “If thing go in this way I am sure several teams will be pulling out of the I-league next season.”

Most of the footballers have started going back home. Aditya informed, “How could the players get motivation to play in the Super Cup when they have not been awarded the I-League despite being top of the table. Participating in the Super Cup is only our motive. Our aim is to win matches.”

It is learned that the Goan club will wait for AIFF for the next month. If they are not awarded the trophy then the club might move to court seeking justice ultimately.

However, Mohun Bagan Super Giants (MBSG) top brass does not look very serious about participation in the Super Cup. The team's foreigners have already left for their homes on Sunday morning. Some of the Indian footballers have also left. Coach Hose Molina is reportedly going on leave for a couple of days and he is likely to resume training for the Super Cup on 17th April. It is believed that he has planned to field a team that will comprise several promising Indian footballers who did not get the opportunity to play in the ISL regularly.
