Although Ronaldo might just enjoy having his toenails painted black, there could actually be a scientific reason behind the choice.
Ronaldo shared some holiday snaps on a boat where he is clearly seen wearing black nail polish on his toenails and some short swimming trunks.
The Instagram post captioned: ‘Vacation mood,’ had some fans in the comments asking the highest-paid footballer ever why he was painting his toenails.
Although Ronaldo might just enjoy having his toenails painted black, there could actually be a scientific reason behind the choice.
Apparently, painting your toenails when you’re a professional sportsperson can help to stop infections and other nasty foot-related ailments.
‘Many top athletes do this to protect their nails from fungi and bacteria when they are stuck in sweaty shoes for hours. Even Mike Tyson,’ German outlet Bild reported.
Most fans focused on Ronaldo’s tanned and toned look but some spotted the toes and wrote: ‘Why is he wearing nail polish man 😭😭😭.’
‘I like the painted toenails,’ said one fan, with numerous commenters simply calling him ‘goat’ meaning greatest of all time.
‘Pedicure 💅,’ joked another, to which their friend replied: ‘For serious men only.’
Some were in denial that Ronaldo had painted his nails at all and wrote: ‘They are not painted, the nail beds are damaged due to trauma of the toes.’
‘No they are painted, athletes paint them to prevent fungi growth or bacteria on their toenails,’ someone responded.
While Ronaldo’s toes enjoy the sunshine, his old number is possibly coming out of retirement as Manchester United consider who should inherit number seven.
The club don’t want to just hand the famous jersey to a new summer signing and is instead considering promoting youngster Alejandro Garnacho, according to the MEN.
