Cristiano Ronaldo's Champions League bicycle goal is Sahil’s motivation

Sahil has already scored eight goals in the Premier League so far, just behind Mohammedan Sporting’s David who has so far scored 10 goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic bicycle goal against Juventus for Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League quarterfinal at Al-Ittihad Stadium is the source of his motivation. He often watches Ronaldo’s bicycle goal and tries to apply it in the training.

Sahil Harijan’s bicycle goal, struck in a similar style against Southern Samity in the CFL Premier Division match in Durgapur on Wednesday has already created a sensation in the city's football fraternity.

But Wednesday was not the first time, the 17-year-old striker exhibited such a wonder goal. He displayed similar bicycle kick already in the CFL Premier Division this season at Kalyani Stadium.

Sahil when asked about his feelings after becoming Wednesday's hero said, "I had scored more goals through bicycle volley before. It was spontaneous. During my career with ATK when I took part in the under-14 I-league, I scored goals, also trying to exhibit bicycle kicks that time.”

Sahil asserts, "Cristiano Ronaldo is my idol. I often watch the video of his bicycle goal in the 2018 Champion's League quarterfinal and try to apply it in the training."

His coach, former India international Lal Kamal Bhowmick says if Sahil can be disciplined and dedicated then Bengal is going to have a quality Bengali striker after a long time, especially after Asim Biswas.

Significantly, Asim Biswas is also from the same place in Habra. Sahil remembering his childhood days added, “My father Ajay Harijon is passionate about football. He took me to the ground and a plastic ball when I was two years old. Then he took me to Ashok Nagar Sporting Club under the guidance of Sourajit Biswas. While taking me to the practice the father showed me Asim’s house and described to me how a quality striker he was. So, I grew up with the indirect influence of Asim Biswas. I felt I would have to reach such a level when the people of Habra and Ashok Nagar would be more popular for me.”

Sahil has already scored eight goals in the Premier League so far, just behind Mohammedan Sporting’s David who has so far scored 10 goals. But Sahil while speaking, sounded determined to supersede David.

He said, "We have still seven matches in the relegation zone. Many people surrounding me told me I would not be able to become the top scorer in the League this season. But their words increased my determination.”
