Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 27 runs and in the process took a step forward for the playoff stage. Pathirana bowled a dream spell for CSK capturing three wickets. After the early blow of 77/4 in 11 overs, CSK recovered slowly. M S Dhoni smashed 20 runs in nine balls and with Jadeja made a 38-run partnership in 18 balls in the seventh wicket. Dube also contributed 25 runs in 12 balls. On a slow pitch, CSK reached a total of 167/8.

Delhi Capitals lost Warner and Salt early. Marsh fell after a mix-up with Manish Pandey. Pandey (27 off 29) and Rossouw (35 off 37) tried to do something by putting up a sluggish partnership which took the Delhi asking rate much higher. Their partnership took 59 balls in which they scored as many runs. DC ended at 140/7.
