Delhi FC split points with TRAU in it's first ever I-league match

Former I-League winner with Mohun Bagan, Balwant Singh scored the lone goal for Delhi FC

Delhi FC split points with Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) as the match ended in a 1-1 draw in their first-ever game of the I-League on Monday, at the Namdhari Stadium in Punjab.

In the first half of the game Delhi FC, who are playing from Sri Bhaini Sahib this season, started the game with gusto and created numerous chances for themselves but lacked proper finish. Their seasoned player and former I-League winner with Mohun Bagan, Balwant Singh played the critical role as he moved across the lines to link up with his teammates. Hirata and Girik Khosla took their chances to put the ball into the TRAU box but were unable to do so because of the opponents tight defense.

TRAU regained their momentum with Liton Shil producing a glancing header off a free-kick by Abraham Okyere in the 29th minute.

In the beginning of the second half of the game, substitute Arnoldinho changed the energy of the game. He sent in a cross from the left, and Balwant took the opportunity to leap high and sent the ball in, scoring the equaliser.

The rest of the game was filled with action showcasing the defensive and offensive capabilities of both teams. There were a few chances for both teams to score again and clinch the three points. Around an hour mark Balwant tried to put the ball in the net but it struck TRAU keeper Mithun Samanta’s leg and derailed. Abraham Okyere also created an opportunity for TRAU in injury time, but the ball could not go past Delhi keeper Pawan Kumar's defenses.
