Depleted Neroca looking at Snorton and Kromah combination for survival

The team from Manipur is languishing at the 12th spot, just after TRAU FC.

Neroca FC is in a state of relegation in the ongoing I-League with a mere seven points from 15 matches so far.

The team from Manipur is languishing at the 12th spot, just after TRAU FC, the last team in the League table that also has garnered seven points in as many matches.

Amidst the disaster, the team management had a little bit of relief with the joining of Liberian striker Darius Snorton Perwood who originally came to East Bengal for selection trials this season.

The 20-year-old forward even practiced with the East Bengal senior team for a couple of weeks before joining Neroca FC.

Neroca FC’s coach Gyan Moyon who took over the charge of the team in the second phase of the ongoing I-League after their Malaysian coach Joseph Jacob departed, sounded satisfied with Snorton’s performance. Snorton has so far participated in two I-league matches.

Before taking on Churchill Brothers at their home ground, Nehru Stadium in Shillong on 8th March Gyan Moyon revealed, “Snorton is not a pure striker. He is a winger. He has brilliant speed and in one-to-one situations, he is truly superb. He loves to send accurate crosses and passes from the flanks. So we need a striker with goal-scoring ability.”

In a bid to get a sharp-shooter Neroca FC is once again in search of Ansumana Kromah. The prolific Liberian striker last played for Peerless SC in the CFL Premier Division in 2021. Then the Liberian striker returned home due to personal problems.

If relegation-struggler Neroca FC can rope in Kromah for the remainder of the I-league then according to the club's top brass the team can survive by winning the matches via the Snorton-Kromah combination.

Moyon explained, “We have nine matches still. We need to win at least six matches to come out of relegation and I need a goal-scoring striker combining with Snorton.”

According to the coach, the key reason behind the team’s poor performance so far is the inability to play in front of the fans.

Due to ethnic violence in Manipur Neroca FC selected Kalyani Stadium for its home matches in the first phase while the club has chosen SSA ground, Shillong for the home matches in the second and last phase of the League.
