After long time Mohun Bagan has fielded its hockey team in Kolkata hockey league and the club fans looked equally enthusiastic about the team. Still, club secretary Debashish Dutta feels the future of Bengal hockey does not look bright without an astro-turf. He said, "After such a long time, we are in hockey also. Our intention is to promote the game in Bengal. The club decided to stop participating in the hockey league mainly due to lack of astro-turf the state hockey association (BHA) does not have yet. The situation has not changed. The league is being played on the grass and in this way hockey will have no development." Dutta added also saying, "We have heard that the BHA is trying hard to find a place where astro-turf can be laid. If it can be materialized next year then the craziness on the game will increase and playing on the artificial turf will help Bengal hockey to develop."
