After being unbeaten in the last 13 matches since the CFL Premier Division kicked off this season, Diamond Harbour FC finally conceded a 1-2 defeat against Sports Odisha FC in their crucial second group league match of the Third Division I-League on Saturday at Naihati Stadium.
DHFC rode a Narahari Srestha strike in the first half. But a lackluster show by the team's defenders forced the Kolkata side to concede two goals and leave the pitch without a point.
Now, the team must have to win their next two group league matches against Lake City FC and Sat Tirur to earn qualification for the finals of the qualifying stage.
DHFC assistant coach Debraj Chatterjee divulged, “We squandered several opportunities. The scoreline could have at least been 3-0 in our favor.”
When asked about the goals they conceded Debraj explained, "I feel it was a lapse of concentration in the particular moment. We were unbeaten in 13 consecutive matches. I feel we needed a shock. I am confident that now the boys will bounce back in the next two group league matches.”
DHFC will play their two group league matches on 9th and 11th September, respectively.
