DHFC decides to ‘boycott’ CFL against IFA’s unjust decision

DHFC, placed in the second position with two points behind East Bengal in the Super-Six stage, were scheduled to play their two last matches against Mohammedan Sporting and East Bengal.

Diamond Harbor FC has decided to ‘boycott’ the CFL this season. Even, the club has expressed doubt over its participation in the CFL next season.

The reason is the India Football Association's (IFA) unfair way of awarding Mohammedan Sporting’s three points to East Bengal in the CFL Premier Division.

DHFC top brass has felt the team which was in the race for the CFL title this season with only two points behind East Bengal in the Super-Six phase, has been shockingly thrown out of the competition!

The club president Akash Banerjee explained while speaking to Parallel Sports on Wednesday, “I have no objection about the punishment Mohammedan Sporting were given by deducting three points and awarding it to East Bengal as Mohammedan Sporting violated the important rule of not fielding four ‘son-of-the-soil’ footballers in the particular match.”

He continued, "But how can it be accepted where East Bengal submitted the complaint after almost 20 days of the respective match and IFA took the decision? Should not there be a restricted time for submitting such complaints? The rule of playing four son-of-the-soil footballers was introduced before the CFL Premier League kicked off. So, why does a team take almost 20 days to complain observing their opposition violating one of the League's fundamental rules? What should I say? It is either a lackluster administration or utmost favoritism to East Bengal!”

Now, according to the situation East Bengal have already become CFL champions this season with the gain of these six clear points (three points each from Mohammedan Sporting and Bhawanipore as Bhawanipore FC has decided to give a walk-over to the Red-and-Gold brigade).

DHFC, placed in the second position with two points behind East Bengal in the Super-Six stage, were scheduled to play their two last matches against Mohammedan Sporting and East Bengal.

However, IFA secretary Anirban Duta could not be contact for his comments on the issue.
